Privacy Policy
Effective date and last updated: 23.09.2026.
Europe Is Weird (europeisweird.com) is owned and operated by Silverline Media, based in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Silverline Media is the data controller responsible for the personal information described in this policy.
This policy explains what we collect when you visit the website or contact us, why we use it, and how you can exercise your privacy rights.
Contact: [email protected]
1. Information we collect
Information you send us. If you contact us, we receive your email address, any name you provide, your message, and any attachments. We use this information to answer questions, handle corrections and feedback, and keep a record of the correspondence.
Website and device information. Our website and its hosting and security services process technical information needed to deliver pages, identify problems, and prevent misuse. This may include your IP address, browser and device details, pages requested, referral information, access times, and error or security logs.
Analytics information. With your consent, Google Analytics 4 collects information about how you use the website, as explained below.
Privacy preferences. We keep records of your cookie choices and related information needed to remember and demonstrate those choices, such as a preference identifier and the time consent was given or withdrawn.
We receive this information from you, your browser or device, and the service providers that process information for our website. Online identifiers and browsing information can be personal information even when we do not know your name.
2. Why we use your information
Our purposes and legal bases are:
| Purpose | Information used | Legal basis |
| Delivering, maintaining, and protecting the website | Technical information and security logs | Our legitimate interest in operating a reliable, secure publication and preventing abuse |
| Responding to questions, corrections, and other correspondence | Contact details, messages, and attachments | Our legitimate interest in communicating with readers and managing the publication |
| Understanding readership and improving the website | GA4 information | Your consent |
| Remembering privacy choices and handling privacy requests | Preference records, contact details, and request records | Compliance with applicable legal obligations; otherwise, our legitimate interest in honoring and documenting your choices |
| Complying with binding requirements and handling legal claims | Records relevant to the requirement or claim | The applicable legal obligation, or our legitimate interest in establishing, exercising, or defending legal rights |
You are not required by law or contract to provide contact information or accept optional analytics to read our articles. Some technical processing is necessary to deliver the website. If you contact us without enough information to understand or answer your request, we may be unable to respond.
We do not use your information to make decisions based solely on automated processing that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.
3. Google Analytics 4
We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4), provided by Google, to understand which articles people read, how they reach the website, and how they interact with it.
GA4 can collect browser and session identifiers, page views, engagement events, referral sources, visit times, device and browser characteristics, language, and approximate location.
IP address handling. Google states that, for visitors in the European Union, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, GA4 uses IP addresses to derive approximate location and then discards them without logging or storing them. For visitors elsewhere, Google uses IP addresses for functions such as approximate location and spam detection, then discards the raw addresses without associating them with user identifiers. This does not make all analytics information anonymous. See Google's explanations of IP handling for EU, Swiss, and UK visitors and IP handling for visitors elsewhere.
Google receives information collected through GA4 and provides us with reports about website use. We do not intentionally send readers' names, email addresses, or message contents to GA4.
For more information, read How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services and Google's Privacy Policy.
4. Cookies and your choices
Cookies and similar technologies store or access information on your device. Necessary storage supports functions such as security and remembering your privacy choices. Optional analytics cookies help us measure website use.
We ask for your consent before activating optional analytics. You can reject analytics and continue reading the website. Continuing to browse or closing the consent notice does not count as consent.
You can change or withdraw your consent at any time using the Cookie Settings link in the website footer. The cookie preferences panel lists the cookies in use, their providers, their purposes, and when they expire.
Your choice generally applies to the browser and device you use. Clearing cookies or changing browsers or devices may require you to make it again. You can also block or delete cookies through your browser settings.
Withdrawing consent stops further processing that depends on that consent. It does not affect the lawfulness of earlier processing or automatically erase information already collected. You can contact us to request deletion.
Google also offers an Analytics opt-out browser add-on for supported browsers.
Do Not Track (DNT) signals
Do Not Track is a browser signal requesting that websites avoid tracking your activity. Our website does not change its tracking behavior in response to DNT signals. You can accept, reject, or withdraw consent to optional analytics through Cookie Settings.
DNT is different from Global Privacy Control (GPC), which is addressed in Section 9.
5. Who receives your information
We use service providers for the following purposes:
- Website hosting, delivery, security, and technical support: These providers process website data and technical records to serve pages, maintain the website, and investigate problems or misuse.
- Email services: These providers process email addresses, message contents, and attachments so we can receive and respond to correspondence.
- Consent management: These providers process privacy preferences and related records to remember and apply your choices.
- Analytics: Google receives and processes the analytics information described in Section 3.
Providers acting as our processors handle personal information under our instructions and applicable data-processing agreements. Authorized people working on the publication may access information where needed for their duties.
We may disclose relevant information to professional advisors or competent authorities when necessary to obtain advice, comply with the law, or protect legal rights. If the publication or its assets are transferred to another owner, relevant records may be transferred subject to applicable safeguards and notice requirements.
6. International transfers
Silverline Media handles personal information in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Service providers may also process information in other countries, including the United States through Google and its service providers. Those countries may have different data protection laws.
Google states that it relies on the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework for eligible transfers of personal information from the European Economic Area to Google LLC in the United States. This framework sets data protection requirements for participating U.S. companies. Google's terms also provide for standard contractual clauses where required for relevant transfers. These clauses impose contractual obligations to protect personal information transferred internationally.
Details are available in Google's general transfer information, its analytics transfer information, and its data processing terms for analytics. You can contact us for information about the safeguards applicable to your information or a copy of relevant protections, with confidential information redacted where necessary.
7. How long we keep information
We keep personal information for the purpose for which it was collected and any additional period needed to meet legal obligations or address a specific dispute or security incident.
- Correspondence: Until the inquiry and necessary follow-up are complete. Relevant records may be retained longer to document an unresolved correction, complaint, dispute, or legal obligation.
- Technical and security logs: Retained only as long as needed to operate and protect the website, and deleted on our hosting provider's routine cycle. Records connected to a specific incident may be kept while that incident or a related legal claim is being addressed.
- GA4 information: User-level and event-level information covered by GA4's retention controls is retained for 14 months. The retention period for user-level information resets each time the user returns to the website. Those controls do not apply in the same way to standard aggregated reports.
- Privacy preferences and requests: For as long as needed to apply your choices, resolve your request, and demonstrate compliance during relevant complaint or legal-claim periods.
When information is no longer needed, we delete it or anonymize it. Copies in backups are removed through the normal backup replacement cycle and are not used for ordinary business purposes while awaiting removal.
8. Your data protection rights
Under applicable data protection law, including the law of Bosnia and Herzegovina and, where applicable, the EU or UK GDPR, your rights may include:
- Access: Ask whether we process your personal information and receive a copy.
- Correction: Have inaccurate or incomplete information corrected.
- Deletion: Request that we delete information when the legal conditions are met.
- Restriction: Ask us to limit processing in the circumstances provided by law.
- Portability: Receive qualifying information in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format and have it transferred where the law provides that right.
- Withdrawal of consent: Withdraw consent at any time for processing based on consent.
Your right to object: You may object to processing based on legitimate interests for reasons relating to your circumstances. We will stop unless the law permits continued processing. If your information is used for direct marketing, you may object to that use at any time.
Contact [email protected] to exercise a right. We may ask for proportionate information to verify your identity and locate the relevant records. You do not need to create an account.
We respond without undue delay, normally within 30 days under Bosnia and Herzegovina's law, or one month where the GDPR applies. If a permitted extension is necessary, we will explain the reason and the extended deadline within the initial response period.
Requests are normally free. If an exception prevents us from fulfilling all or part of a request, we will explain our decision and the available complaint route. Any mandatory rights under other applicable laws remain available.
9. California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) rights
If you are a California resident, you may have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA). This section applies to the extent that law covers Silverline Media's processing of your personal information.
Sections 1–7 describe the information we collect, its sources, why we use it, who receives it, and how long we keep it. This includes identifiers such as names, email addresses, IP addresses, and browser identifiers; browsing and device information; approximate location; and correspondence you send us.
Subject to the law's conditions and exceptions, your rights include:
- Know and access: Request the categories and specific pieces of personal information we hold about you, its sources, the purposes of collection and use, and information about disclosures, sales, or sharing. You may receive qualifying information in a portable, readily usable format.
- Delete: Request deletion of personal information, subject to exceptions such as legal obligations and security needs.
- Correct: Request correction of inaccurate personal information.
- Opt out of sale or sharing: Direct us to stop any sale or sharing of your personal information as those terms are defined by the CCPA, including sharing for advertising based on activity across different businesses' websites or services.
- Limit sensitive information: Limit certain uses and disclosures of sensitive personal information when they go beyond the purposes permitted by the CCPA without offering that right.
- Equal treatment: Exercise your rights without unlawful discrimination or retaliation.
How to make a request. Email [email protected] and describe your request. You do not need to create an account. For requests to know, delete, or correct, we may ask for information reasonably necessary to verify your identity and locate your records. Information supplied for verification is used only for that purpose. We do not require identity verification for requests to opt out of sale or sharing or to limit qualifying uses of sensitive information.
You may use an authorized agent. For requests to know, delete, or correct, we may require proof of authorization and direct verification or confirmation from you, as permitted by law. Applicable exceptions for a valid power of attorney remain available.
Response times. For requests to know, delete, or correct, we acknowledge receipt within 10 business days and respond within 45 calendar days. If a permitted extension is necessary, we notify you within the initial period and may take up to 45 additional calendar days. Applicable opt-out and sensitive-information limitation requests are handled as soon as feasible and within 15 business days. Requests are generally free; we explain any permitted fee or reason we cannot fulfill a request.
Global Privacy Control. GPC is a browser signal communicating a choice to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. Where the CCPA requires us to process that signal, we treat it as a valid opt-out request. You can also contact us at the email address above about your California privacy rights.
For more information or to raise a concern, visit the California Privacy Protection Agency or the California Attorney General.
10. Complaints
You may complain directly to the Personal Data Protection Agency in Bosnia and Herzegovina. You do not have to contact us first.
Where the GDPR applies, you may also complain to the competent authority in the EU/EEA country where you live or work, or where the alleged infringement occurred. See the European Data Protection Board's directory. For UK complaints, see the Information Commissioner's Office.
You may also seek a remedy before a competent court as provided by applicable law.
11. Security
We use technical and organizational measures appropriate to the information we handle, including access controls and safeguards provided by our service providers. No website or transmission method can guarantee complete security.
If a personal data breach occurs, we assess it and notify the appropriate authorities and affected individuals when required by law.
12. Children's privacy
Europe Is Weird is a general-audience publication and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children in circumstances requiring parental consent without that consent.
If you believe a child has provided information we should not hold, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action, including deletion where required.
13. Links and policy updates
Our articles may link to websites operated by others. Their information practices are described in their own privacy notices.
We update this policy when our practices or applicable requirements change and revise the date above. We provide prominent notice of material changes and obtain new consent before processing that requires it.
If we plan to use personal information for a new purpose, we will explain that purpose and provide any required information before doing so.
For questions about this policy, contact [email protected].
